Mold Removal Is A Challenging Process

Mold is present in many homes and commercial buildings throughout this part of the country. Most people think of mold as an unsightly problem, possibly even an odor problem, as the musty smell of a mold infestation can be noticeable.

However, mold is not just an eyesore or an unpleasant odor. Depending on the type of mold that takes hold in a building, it can cause serious health risks, like exacerbated respiratory symptoms, such as those with preexisting conditions like asthma.

For others, it can cause serious illnesses where there was nothing wrong before, such as cardio, bronchial, or even neural diseases that can lead to death if left untreated.

How Mold Forms

In actuality, mold is always present in the air with us. Unless a building invests in quarantine and atmospheric control systems equal to the International Space Station, mold spores come into a building every time a door or window is opened, being small enough to get past screens on doors and windows.

This is why, if bread is left alone long enough, mold forms on it. The spores are already in the air, just looking for the proper surface and conditions to settle down and start a colony.

Different molds have different ideal conditions. Bread mold only requires dry, crusty bread. Other types need a dark, wet or moist environment.

Where It Can Go

In the case of the more toxic forms of mold, such as black mold, a consistently moist area is ideal. Unfortunately, this can be just about anywhere that property owners neglect in a home or commercial building, either out of carelessness or ignorance.

Basement Mold Growth

Basements, for example, are notorious for bringing mold if they remain too damp too long. This is especially true in a flooding situation.

However, a leaky roof in a home, store, or office building can be just as inviting for mold to settle down if it gets into insulation or other roof infrastructure components. It can even settle into drywall, wood, or other parts of a building.

The Difficulty Of Mold Removal

Unfortunately, mold spores, being microscopic and spreading in large numbers, means that getting rid of mold is extremely difficult for ordinary people.

A sponge and an off-the-shelf retail cleaner or antiseptic are not going to be sufficient to simply wipe a mold spot away. Even if you can no longer see the stains the mold makes, that doesn’t mean the spore itself is gone.

Mold spore can penetrate deep into components like insulation and drywall, meaning that as long as these elements of a building remain intact, the mold can return. Mold can be in the joists of a building or even in the carpet.
